Eva and Franco Mattes Want to Hack You (Art)

According to Artkrush

Italian duo are the Internet Bonnie and Clyde

Eva and Franco Mattes are web-art pioneers. With projects that blur the boundaries of copyright, authenticity, and legality, the Italian duo has earned a reputation as the Bonnie and Clyde of the Internet.

The pair punked the pope. In 1998, Eva and Franco hacked the Vatican's website, creating a rearranged page that garnered more than four million hits.

They live online. The artists took up residence in the Second Life virtual world, where they created several series of portraits, including the 13 Most Beautiful Avatars. They also staged Synthetic Performances: web-based re-enactments of Chris Burden's Shoot, Marina Abramovic's Imponderabilia, and other celebrated performance-art pieces.

Explore the artists' website, view the 13 Most Beautiful Avatars, watch the Synthetic Performances, read a review of the toy show, and catch the current exhibition online or in person. - Paul Laster
