Mark Twain once said, "History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme," and the timing of this particular production from LA Theatre Works proves it. A dramatic adaptation of the themes taken up by Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas during their historic presidential debates, the play features the powerhouse duo of David Strathairn and Paul Giamatti. This staged reading has the actors appearing in modern dress, so you can be forgiven for getting the show mixed up with the contemporary — but no less contentious — Obama-McCain version. – Shana Nys Dambrot
