Katy Rodriguez

Born and raised in San Francisco, where she also studied fine art and photography, Katy Rodriguez initially made her mark in 1996 as co-founder of designer vintage store, Resurrection, which currently operates in Los Angeles and New York. Early on, Rodriguez also collaborated with her business partner, Mark Haddawy, on a collection they called caitie et marc. In 2000, she designed a capsule collection with the artist Raymond Pettibon, based on his ink on paper drawings.

In June 2005, Rodriguez struck out on her own, designing a group of dresses that drew on her extensive knowledge of fashion’s history, but which featured modern revisions. She continued to build on her original designs, assembling thirteen pieces for a Spring 2007 collection that focused on rare vintage silks and architectural volume. Chosen as one of Gen Art’s “Fresh Faces,” Rodriguez showed Spring 2007 at the Gen Art Show in October 2006 as part of Los Angeles Fashion Week. Rodriguez received rave reviews from Women’s Wear Daily, and The Los Angeles Times, which marked the collection as “unique,” “elegant,” and a “great start.” Publications including Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, W, Lucky, among others, covered Katy Rodriguez in the months that followed and women including Sarah Jessica Parker, Chloe Sevigny, Zooey Deschanel, and Liv Tyler have become loyal clients. In 2007, Rodriguez was selected to participate in the prestigious California Design Biennial at the Pasedena Museum of Art. Currently, Rodriguez show her collections seasonally at New York Fashion Week.

Rodriguez has recently begun partnerships with retailers such as Browns of London and Harvey Nichols Hong Kong, as well as specialty stores throughout the U.S., including Hugo Nicholson in Toronto, The Grocery Store in San Francisco, and Opening Ceremony in New York and Los Angeles.
