The Locust w/ The Chinese Stars and Awesome Brothers

Formed from the remains of Providence noise-punks Arab on Radar, the Chinese Stars streamline their former band's abrasive tendencies. It's easy to toss the foursome into the dance-punk catchall — it banks strongly on high hats and scribbly synths — but last year's Listen to Your Left Brain feels more akin to the arty noise Arab on Radar helped mobilize than anything else. Sure, the guitars are less discordant, and the Stars have forsaken blast-beats altogether, but the band's snide vocals and sarcastic tone play nicer with spazz-core acts like tonight's headliner, the Locust than, say, Bloc Party. – Stephen Gossett
